چکیده

Total reflection X-Ray Fluorescence (TXRF) is a comparatively new technique of material characterization and trace element analysis. It is an advanced variant of Energy Dispersive X-ray Fluorescence (EDXRF) and is based on the principle of total reflection of X-rays when these radiations fall on a flat smooth surface at a grazing angle less than the critical angle of the sample support. The critical angle is in the range of about 0.11 degree in most cases. For TXRF analysis, a few microlitres of sample solution is deposited and dried on a flat sample support to make a thin film specimen and irradiated with X-rays in total reflection condition. As the X-rays do not penetrate inside the sample support in this condition, there is very little scattering of the X-rays from the sample support and, therefore, the background is considerably reduced. In addition, the specimen is excited by incoming as well as the totally reflected beam. This condition makes the excitation efficiency of the elements almost double compared to the conventional X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF). Moreover, since the detector can be placed Total Reflection X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometry for Characterization of Nuclear Materials

Determining the Content of Silicon Dioxide in Bauxites Using X-Ray Fluorescence Spectrometry

The X-ray fluorescence spectrometry and the MA.BM.006 reference spectrophotometric methods were used to determine the content of SiO2 (%) in bauxites from different deposits. The treatment of samples prior to the analysis involved the following steps: annealing, melting using the borax method,  and the formation of beads. Certified reference bauxite samples were used for the cali...

Fluoride Precipitation of Cu Over Fe in a Selected pH Window

Fe is an impurity in most leach liquors. Its coexistence with copper in leaching solution of chalcopyrite (CuFeS2) which is the most important mineral of copper creates major extraction problems. Hydrochloric acid dissolves both copper and iron during chloride leaching of this mineral. Separation of Fe from Cu is thus necessary to obtain pure copper. This paper presents a novel metho...

Preparation and Characterization of SiO2-CaCl2 Nanocomposite by the Sol-Gel Method

The SiO2-CaCl2 hybrid porous materials were prepared by the sol-gel method. This process was conducted by the hydrolysis and condensation of Tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) by replacement of ethanol from alcogel and drying at the ambient temperature to obtain xerogel structure. The alcogel samples were synthesized from TEOS, EtOH, H2O, HCl, NH4OH and CaCl2, while the total molar ratio of the co...
